Environmental Issues

We plan to do as much as we can to reduce our environmental footprint.

We will endeavour to use recycled paper and to minimise paper use: we have now made arrangements to recycle all our non-confidential paper, cardboard and some plastics and glass.   Unfortunately much of our glass has to be disposed of to specialist agents as it is considered unsuitable to go into recycling.

We started by using A5 paper for all receipts to reduce paper use.   This, however, had several problems.   Recycled, unbleached A5 paper is hard to come by and some of the computer functions required A4, leading to mistakes and wasted paper.   The problem was finally solved by Flora (the practice cat) who has managed to change the printer settings so that A5 is no longer accepted.   We have pleaded with her, and the computer, to reverse this, to no avail.   Faced with this, we have managed to source recycled, unbleached, very thin A4 which we think may even be less environmentally damaging than the previous A5.   Perhaps Flora realised this!

You will see our washing drying on a line ouside the surgery!  We have made good use of the Spring sunshine and bedding and operating gowns have been blowing dry in the wind.

We will replace light bulbs with longer lasting 'green' bulbs and minimise the strength of the lights we use.

We will try to insulate the building as much as possible.
